A challenging multi-day running race across the mountains of Wales, with steep ascents and rugged terrain. The race covers a distance of 380 km with approximately 16,400 m of ascent, from Conwy Castle to Cardiff Castle. It is not only a test of physical endurance but also a celebration of the natural beauty of Wales. Participants must navigate the race route using map navigation and GPS tracking, and the event offers various entry formats, including the full six-day course and shorter options like Dragon's Fire and Dragon's Tail. Dragon’s Fire - Tân y Ddraig provides an exhilarating two-day introduction to the Dragon’s Back Race, beginning with the iconic start at Conwy Castle. Runners follow the same route as full-course participants through the dramatic mountains of the Carneddau, Glyderau, Snowdon massif and the notorious Rhinogs, which are regarded as the most technical and spectacular terrain of the race. With full race support and two nights in atmospheric overnight camps, it offers an ideal way to experience the spirit and challenge of the full Dragon’s Back Race without committing to the entire six days. Dragon’s Tail - Cynffon y Ddraig captures the unforgettable final chapters of the Dragon’s Back Race, inviting runners to join on Day 5 for a stunning traverse of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), which is often regarded as the best single day of the race. Day 6 offers a striking change of pace: a flat, fast ultra into the heart of Cardiff, finishing with a rapturous welcome to our finish area within the grounds of Cardiff Castle. With full race support, two nights in the lively overnight camps, and transport provided to join the event at Camp 4, this is an opportunity to experience the glory of the Dragon’s Back Race finale, without the six-day commitment.
