The Maverick Ochil Hills Trail 2026 SATURDAY 8 AUGUST 2026 AIRTHREY CASTLE, STIRLING Celebrating the Ochils, this trail running experience offers all levels of running terrain and difficulty across five distances, from a forest trail 5k, a fast trail marathon and 50k that offers all of the best mix of forest and fell running. Starting at the University of Stirling, run out through Hermitage Wood and Black Hill, along undulating open trails, with the Ochils as your distant viewpoint. For those running the longer distances, get ready for some exciting climbs and fell trails as you enter the Ochil Hills. Working closely with local partners such as the University, Mountain Rescue, and Future Forest Charity, we'll celebrate the local community and the vast hills of the Ochils. Due to likely high temperatures , dogs will not be allowed to take part in this event.






Honouring the Scottish Commandos and raising funds for Scottish Veterans Residences, Breaking The Laws 30K offers a memorable challenge for runners taking part solo or as a relay (team of 3), with a further option of a scenic 10K circular walk around North Berwick and Balgone. WILLIAM WALLACE ULTRA (70KM) Solos, Relay teams of 3 or 6 3 or 6 Relay Stage changeovers and 5 Aid stations The longest event of the festival – a spectacular 70km loop of historic Stirling. Starting in view of Wallace Monument, and under the shadows of the Ochil Hills, you will then weave your way past the Battle of Bannockburn, climb into the Campsie Fells and Lewis Hill high above North Third Reservoir, before heading through Kings Park – once the hunting ground of royalty – and past Kings Knott ancient gardens. You'll head up over the Stirling Castle with views over the River Forth, past Kier Estate where the SAS founder Sir David Stirling once lived, through the market village of Bridge of Allan rising to Cockburn Reservoir and into the Ochil Hills. Going through Jerah Forrest and returning via the protected village of Blairlogie, Wallace Monument, Cambuskenneth Abbey and the riverside path. It will be an unforgettable journey! WILLIAM WALLACE ULTRA (50KM) Solos, Relay teams of 3 or 6 3 or 6 Relay Stage changeovers and 5 Aid stations An awesome loop of historic Stirling. Starting in view of the Wallace Monument, and under the shadow of the Ochil Hills, you will then weave your way past the Battle Of Bannockburn, Kings Park – once the hunting ground of royalty – and Kings Knott ancient gardens. Before going up to the imposing Stirling castle with views over the River Forth, past Keir Estate where the SAS founder Sir David Stirling once lived, through the market village of Bridge of Allan rising to Cockburn Reservoir. You will then return via the iconic Wallace Monument, Cambuskenneth Abbey and the riverside path. It will be an unforgettable journey! BRAVEHEART (10KM) A flat, out and back, route starting in view of Wallace Monument and under the shadows of the Ochil Hills. The route takes you alongside the River Forth where you will traverse over the Stirling Old Bridge – rebuilt many times after fierce battles it is best-known for the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297 where Sir William Wallace and Andrew Moray defeated English forces. Follow in the footsteps of icons and create your own moment in history. WALLACE WARRIORS (1 MILE) A traffic free flat run to let our young warriors release lots of energy as they too get to experience the same start and finish line as those in the other festival events, creating tall tales of daring doo and their own piece of history.
