Get ready for the Phoenix Running Manchester Sip Sip Hurray event on Monday, December 28th, 2026, at the stunning Chorlton Water Park in Manchester, Lancashire! This festive post-Christmas celebration welcomes runners, walkers, and joggers of all abilities to enjoy a unique race experience along the picturesque River Mersey. Participants can choose their challenge, with distances ranging from a 5km lap to a full marathon or ultra, all within a generous 7-hour time limit. Whether you complete just one lap or aim to push your limits, everyone will receive a fabulous bespoke finishers' medal that perfectly captures the spirit of the season. Organised by Phoenix Running Manchester, this event promises to be a joyous occasion for prosecco enthusiasts, as well as a wonderful opportunity to support the chosen charity, Destitute Animals Shelter in Bolton. With a well-stocked vegetarian aid station offering a variety of snacks and refreshments, including vegan and gluten-free options, you'll be fueled and ready to tackle the flat and fast riverside towpath. About this event
Join us this post-Xmas festive bank holiday with a medal to match the festive season. Calling all prosecco fans, you're not going to want to miss this medal! This is one of our timed events where you choose - from 5km to 10k, half to marathon to ultra, you can complete as many, or as few, laps as you like of a 5.3km, 3.28 mile, out and back, course along the beautiful River Mersey in Chorlton Water Park. We welcome all abilities of runners, walkers, joggers, hikers, Jeffers - complete one lap and you're both a finisher and a winner in our eyes, or keep going and see how far you can get in the full 7 hour time limit and everyone gets the fabulous bespoke finishers' medal. Run a lap and see how you feel on the day and keep on going if it feels right. Race brief: A race brief is sent a week before the event which is mandatory reading for all participants. Chosen charity: Destitute Animals Shelter, Bolton Start Time: Earliest start 8am. Rock up and Run 8am onwards. Registration from 7.30am. All runners should be finished by 3.30pm Location: Hardy Farm, M21 8FE Race Distance: Minimum distance is 3.28 miles or as far as you can go in 7 hours. Terrain: Off road trail, the terrain is riverside towpath. Aid station: We have a well-stocked vegetarian aid station all day, with many vegan items as well as gluten free/free from items. For example: bananas, dates, jelly sweets, crisps, usually some form of cake, squash, full sugar cola, etc. Allergies: If you have severe and life threatening allergies, please bring your own food, as we cannot guarantee there will be no cross-contamination. Profile: The overall course has very little elevation gain / loss making this a flat and fast route. Toilets and changing rooms available at Race HQ. Parking available for 75 cars at Hardy Farm on a first come, first serve basis. Additional Parking for upto 100 cars is available across the river at Sale Water Park (15min walk from the start). There is also additional public and paid parking around Chorlton Water Park.

The course
Good quality trail with a small tarmac section. Flat route in a beautiful park. Can get muddy if there has been persistent rain.
Getting there
Sale Water Park tram stop is a 10 min walk from the start. Barlow Moor tram stop is a 15 min walk from the start. Plenty of local bus routes Hardy Farm is located at the end of Hardy Lane. For Car Sat Nav Please use Betel UK, M21 8DP which brings you to the entrance of Hardy Farm car park.

What do you stock at the Aid Station?
Selection of sweets, bananas, biscuits, crisps and pretzels. There is a good chance of cake and, if the weather is hot, ice lollies as well. Vegan options and gluten free options are available too. Water, variety of squash and cola will be available.
Are spectators welcome?
Spectators are more than welcome! Chorlton Water Park is beautiful and is also connected to Sale Water Park which has cafes and pubs along the river.
Is there free parking?
Yes! There is free parking for upto 75 cars on a first come, first serve basis for the entire duration of the event.
Are there toilets?
Yes, we have toilets at start/finish of every lap.
Flexible Start times?
We offer flexible start times from 8am, simply come to the start area ready to run so we can check you in and set you off as soon as you’re ready.
What is the event cut-off?
The cut-off time is 3:30pm by which time you should be finished running.
