About this event

The UK's most picturesque half marathon! The setting for the Windsor Half marathon is one of the most beautiful in the UK, the start and finish being on the Long Walk within Windsor Great Park and with Windsor Castle as the backdrop. 2026 will be the 42nd Running of the Event. Windsor Great Park was once part of a vast Norman hunting forest, and the antiquity of the landscape is enhanced by the scattering of great ancient oaks for which the Great Park and its forest are renowned. The course itself is all on road and quite challenging, with plenty of hills spread around the route, but remember, what goes up must come down! All this coupled with beautiful scenery and traffic free roads makes for a wonderful experience. The event also includes a 50m Sprite Sprint for 5 – 9 year olds, which will be run on the grass alongside the Long Walk. Entries taken and numbers given out on the day.

The course

The setting for the Windsor Half marathon is one of the most beautiful in the UK, the start and finish being on the Long Walk within Windsor Great Park and with Windsor Castle as the backdrop. The course itself is all on road and quite challenging with plenty of hills spread around the route, but remember: what goes up must come down! All this coupled with beautiful scenery and traffic free roads makes for a wonderful experience. Please take note that the section of the course that is marked as a dotted line is Crown Estate private property and is only open to us on race day so please do not attempt to train along it. The race takes place close to Windsor Castle within the confines of the Windsor Great Park. The course is two laps, one of approximately 4 miles, the other of about 7.5 miles with the remainder made up by the 1.5 mile Long Walk at the start and end of the race. The course is best described as undulating. It has many flat stretches, but there are some hilly sections to make the race a bit more interesting. The final 1.5 miles Long Walk is particularly impressive. The impressive sight of Windsor Castle in the distance beyond the finish line is quite outstanding and not something many will forget quickly.

Getting there

BY CAR: Please allow at least 1 hour on top of your anticipated journey time. These routes have been pre-planned in consultation with the Police in order to alleviate traffic congestion. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please exit by the same route. FROM THE NORTH - Join M4 and travel westbound to J10. Take A329M to Bracknell. At Twin Bridges roundabout continue onto the A329 signposted to Ascot. At Heatherwood Hospital roundabout (near racecourse) turn left onto A332 towards Windsor. The route will be AA signposted. FROM THE WEST - Leave M4 at J10 and follow directions as above. FROM THE SOUTH - Leave M3 at J3 and follow A322 towards Bracknell. At first major roundabout, get in offside lane and take A332 to Ascot. At Heatherwood Hospital roundabout (near the racecourse) continue on A332 towards Windsor. The route will be AA signposted. FROM THE EAST - Leave M4 at J6 follow signs towards Windsor then follow AA sign for Windsor Half Marathon. If raining on the day of the race, please add 30 minutes to your journey time as parking will be restricted and therefore slower. Follow the AA signs. BY RAIL: From Paddington: change at Slough for Windsor & Eton (Central). From Waterloo: to Windsor (Riverside) via Staines. On leaving stations, walk up High Street into Park Street to castle gates, then down to Long Walk to start (about one mile).
