With a flexible 'rock up and run' start time beginning at 8:30 AM, registration opens at 7:30 AM, allowing you to start your adventure without any pressure. With a minimum distance of just 3.28 miles and a generous 7-hour time limit, this event is perfect for anyone looking to challenge themselves in a supportive environment. Phoenix Running South Wales invites you to join us at KINGFISHER RUN on Sunday 2nd August 2026 at the beautiful Parc Cwm Darran in Deri, Bargoed. The medal for this is the next instalment in the super spinning medal series. This is one of our timed events where you choose how far to go - from 5km to 10k, half to marathon to ultra, you can complete as many, or as few, laps as you like of a 5.3km, 3.28 mile, out and back, course through Parc Cwm Darran. Starting just behind the cafe you will head south through the park with a lap around the lake before heading north to Fochriw. We welcome runners and walkers alike - complete one lap and you're both a finisher and a winner in our eyes or keep going and see how far you can get in the full 7-hour time limit. Everyone gets the fabulous bespoke finishers medal. We operate our uniquely flexible 'rock up and run' start times, so no waiting around if you arrive early and no added pressure if you're running a bit late. If you have any special start time requirements, get in touch because depending on the distance you plan to run, we will try to accommodate all start time requests. Not sure what distance to do? Well, the beauty of this format is that you don't even need to decide in advance - simply come and run a lap and see how you feel on the day and keep on going if it feels right. Places will be strictly limited, so don't leave it too late to enter. Staggered start from 8:30am (registration open from 7.30am) Minimum distance is 3.28 miles or as far as you can go in 7 hours. The course
An officially measured (UKACM) route of 5.3km, or 3.28 miles. The route is entirely on tarmac and we recommend road shoes. The route starts adjacent to the top carpark and follows the path straight down the trail until you reach the turnaround point. On the way back you will take a right hand turn towards the lake, you follow the path anticlockwise around the lake to complete a full loop, returning right back to the trail. From here you will head straight back to the aid station and continue on the trail until the next turnaround point when you make your way back to the aid station to complete a lap. Each lap has approximately 80m of elevation gain.
Parking

FAQs
What time does it start?
We offer flexible start times, simply come to the start area when you are ready to run and we will get you going.
What is available at the aid station?
We have a selection of jelly sweets and chocolate, cakes and biscuits as well as savoury snacks such as pretzels and crisps. Vegan and gluten free options are clearly marked. Drinks include water, different flavour squash, and cola. Note: we are a cupless event - please bring your own reusable cup or drinks bottle that we can refill for you
Are there toilets and changing?
There are toilets at the Visitor Centre and they should be open from 7:30am. Cafe - the front hatch at the cafe will be open from 8am serving hot drinks. The cafe will be fully open from 10am serving hot and cold drinks, hot food, and a selection of cakes and snacks. The cafe is dog friendly.
Where is bag drop?
There is no official bag drop but you are welcome to leave a small bag at race HQ at your own risk and these will be easily accessible to you throughout the event. Please leave valuables in your car or take them with you on your run.
How many laps for my distance?
One lap is measured to be 3.28 miles, just over 5km. Two laps is 6.56 miles, just over 10km. Four laps is 13.1 miles, half marathon. Eight laps is 26.2 miles, marathon distance. Nine or more laps is an ultramarathon.
Is there a cut off?
All participants must be finished by 3.30pm
